The highly coveted gold Mario figurine sold out in minutes, and is now being flipped for big bucks online.
The gold Mario Amiibo was a Wal-Mart exclusive. Today, when the preorders went live on the retailer's website, it sold out in approximately 15 minutes. Those were all sold at $12.96.
However, if you really want one, you can still get one – for a hefty price. Right now, there are many on sale on eBay, generally around the $75 or $80 price point – with a few outrageous exceptions.

Our Take
I'm on record as an Amiibo skeptic, but if they make people happy, who am I to judge? Still, I do dislike the seemingly manufactured scarcity on the part of Nintendo. Sure, it generates excitement, but it also inevitably results in price gouging and online flipping.
